The following morning, Sunday December 16, another farewell Mass was celebrated at Irun, and the Pro-Vida party from the neighbouring Diocese of Bilbao took charge of the Icon.
The Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa entered the city of Bilbao (capital of the province of Vizcaya) via the bridge opposite the Guggenheim Museum, driving through the main streets to the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, where she was greeted with a ceremonial “aurresku”, a Basque dance of welcome, performed by a “dantzari” (Basque dancer) to the strains of a “chistu” (Basque flute) and drum. In the ceremonial reception of the Icon in the church, the reasons for the pilgrimage were explained, stressing the importance of this taking place during Advent.

The Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa is now in Spain, spreading graces wherever She goes. The arrival of the Icon in Spain was a moving moment; it was a fine day, in contrast to the cold and rain of the previous day. The Guipuzcoa province Pro-Vida group together with the coordinators: Alicia Lattore and Lech Kowalewski drove to Bayonne Cathedral, in France.

Time has come for the transfer of the pilgrim icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa between France and Spain, which took place on December 15. On behalf of the international committee Lech Kowalewski went to Spaini.

Last place of stay of the Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa in France was the adoration chapel of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayonne Cathedral - Saint André chapel, where she spent the night. The next morning came representatives of the Spanish Federation of Pro-Life Movement and Family Ministry.

On Sunday, the 9th of December 2012, at 8:45 A.M., when the celebration of the Holy Eucharist had ended, and the priests had left for the sacristy, a 58 year-old man, attempted to damage seriously the Miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa at the Jasna Gora Shrine in Poland. He jumped over the barrier and forced his way towards the altar.
